Caroline Trammell

I am a rising sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I am currently undeclared in my major, but plan on attending medical school and pursuing a career in pediatrics. While I am undeclared, I have interests that range from math and science to history and political science. When I first saw the Math and the Mouse May-X at the Study Away Fair, I was immediately interested. I had been fortunate to have two family trips to Disney World as a child. My grandparents took the family on a trip to WDW for each grandchild's 4th birthday, so I went once at age 4 for my own trip and again at 7 for my brother's. While it has been more than 10 years since my last visit, my love for Disney movies as well as my job as a camp counselor has kept me interested and in love with all things Disney. I figure that 18 is pretty much the prime time to visit WDW. I'm old enough to experience everything WDW has to offer before I get older and take my own children. However, I wasn't just interested in this class because of where we are studying - I really do love math! Math was always one of my favorite classes in high school, and I was originally bummed my freshman year when I realized that I wouldn't have to take any more math courses. Luckily, I had Dr. Harris as my advisor and realized what a great opportunity this May-X would be, not only to get my math fix, but to learn about new a practical applications of mathematics that I had never encountered before.

Over these few weeks, I'm really excited to learn about the mathematical "magic" that keeps the most magical place in the world running smoothly. I can't wait to get to know my classmates better and make some truly remarkable memories.

Favorite Restaurants

Well, a lot has changed since my last visit to WDW, but I think one of my eternal favorites will always be Cinderella's Royal Table. While I don't remember much about the food, the experience of having "real princesses" wandering around while you eat is pretty awesome. My family always went for breakfast, and it was the perfect way to start an early day in the parks. I don't remember any other dining experience, but I'm looking forward to trying some new things. Flame Tree Barbecue in Animal Kingdom certainly appeals to by Southern love of barbecue. I am a bit of an Anglophile, so I am also really excited to try the food at the UK Pavilion at Epcot. I also cannot wait to try the classic WDW treats, like Dole whips.

Favorite Attractions

I love anything that goes fast, spins, or drops, so any major rollercoasters or thrill rides are a definite favorite of mine. This includes many classics like Splash Mountain, Mad Tea Party, Rockin' Roller Coaster, Kali River Rapids, and Test Track. I think I am most excited to see all of the new attractions, including the new Fantasyland and the expansion of the Star Wars section at Hollywood Studios. I also cannot wait to try Expedition Everest and Dinosaur, not because it's new, but because I didn't exactly hit the height requirement last time I visited WDW.
