About Me

I just finished my sophomore year as a Physics and Applied Mathematics major at Furman University. My first two years have been an amazing whirlwind of classes, extracurriculars, and experiences that only a school like Furman could offer. Let me back up though. I grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where I was heavily involved in the middle and high school band programs as a percussionist. I found a passion for math and science, specifically engineering, in a ninth grade pre-engineering class. My teacher kindled my inner tinkerer and encouraged me to explore the world through the lens of science and math. After Furman, I hope to attend graduate school and pursue a degree in Materials Science Engineering.

The inner tinkerer in me is what makes this May Experience trip so interesting, and why I am so excited for it. I enjoy looking deeper into what might seem to be a very simple topic or phenomenon. If you've ever heard of it, this is the idea behind the super awesome Smarter Every Day YouTube channel. This trip will allow me to unleash my tinkerer on Walt Disney World and learn things that most people overlook and take for granted. I have not been to Disney World in almost ten years now, but I have great memories of those experiences and look forward to going through the parks as an older kid (yes, I still very much consider myself a kid).

Favorite Disney Foods

One of my favorite memories from the last time I was in Disney was going back out one night into Epcot with my Mom after my sisters were done in the parks for the day and just snacking around the countries. I remember getting French pastries, an egg roll, and a bratwurst, followed by enjoying the fireworks. Another great memory was going to the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. The dinner show was hilarious and it had a great atmosphere. The Rainforest Cafe is another restaurant I have good memories of eating at.

Favorite Disney Attractions

My taste in rides has changed greatly since I went to Disney last. I was not a big fan of the thrill rides then, so maybe I should go through the rides I am most excited for in addition to my childhood favorites. In the Magic Kingdom I am looking forward to (of course) Space Mountain, but have fond memories of the Buzz Lightyear Spin and the WDW Railroad. I have the most favorite rides in Epcot including Soarin, all of the hands-on labs, and Mission Space. I have always had a fascination for space and would love to spend time there at some point in my life. Last time I was in Epcot I ran out of time to ride Test Track, so I can't wait to get the chance (10 years later). In Animal Kingdom I cannot wait to ride Expedition Everest. Sadly, the Lights, motors, action! stunt show is now closed in Hollywood Studios. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing to watch the stunt driving before I could drive myself. I am also looking forward to the Tower of Terror and the Rockin Roller Coaster.
